Used Land Rover Discovery Sport Engines UK — 204DTD Chain-Tested, AJ200D Head-Checked Units

Frequently Asked Questions About Used Land Rover Discovery Sport Engines in the UK
How much does a used Land Rover Discovery Sport engine cost?
A tested used Discovery Sport engine has pricing confirmed after diagnosis depending on the engine code, mileage and donor history. A 2.0 Ingenium diesel unit is usually at the lower end; a petrol sits mid-range. The price includes the unit, fitment and the written workshop guarantee — your specialist's itemised quote confirms exactly what is covered.
How do I know a used engine is the right one for my Discovery Sport?
The registration check identifies the exact engine code — a 2.0 Ingenium diesel (204DTD) is not the same as the petrol (AJ200D). The specialist confirms the unit's code against your vehicle before sourcing, and the paperwork records the match. If a seller cannot tell you the engine code, do not buy.
How long does fitting a used Discovery Sport engine take?
The timeframe is confirmed after diagnosis, parts availability and authorisation, subject to unit availability, diagnosis and authorisation. A common engine like the 2.0 Ingenium is usually sourced quickly. Your specialist confirms availability and a written timeframe before you approve. Make sure this point is confirmed before approving the Land Rover Discovery Sport used engine work.
What warranty comes with a used Discovery Sport engine?
Written workshop warranty terms for qualifying used engines, issued by the workshop that supplies and fits the unit. Written terms apply — confirm what is covered, what is excluded, and how a claim is raised before authorising. We match you with specialists who put their guarantee in writing. The workshop's written Land Rover Discovery Sport used engine proposal should state this explicitly.
Are used Discovery Sport engines reliable?
A used engine is reliable when it is verified: donor history reviewed, compression and oil pressure tested, and the known failure points checked. On a 204DTD that means chain stretch and balance shaft noise; on an AJ200D, coolant system and head condition. An unverified unit from a breaker is a gamble — our network's units are checked before fitment and carry a written guarantee.
What happens to my old Land Rover Discovery Sport engine after the swap?
That is agreed at quote stage. Most specialists take the old engine away as part of the arrangement, and some offer a part-exchange value. If you want to keep the old unit — to rebuild later or inspect the failure — tell the specialist before work starts so it is preserved rather than scrapped. Ask the workshop to record this clearly in the written Land Rover Discovery Sport used engine quote.
Can a used engine be fitted to my Discovery Sport at home?
Engine removal and fitment needs a workshop — lifting equipment, tooling and a controlled environment. Our network is workshop-based, and most specialists offer collection and recovery so your non-running Discovery Sport reaches them without you arranging transport. Your quote names the workshop and includes collection where agreed.
What if a used Land Rover Discovery Sport engine fails after fitment?
That is what the written guarantee is for: written workshop warranty terms for qualifying used engines, with claims handled by the workshop that supplied and fitted the unit. Before authorising, ask exactly how a claim is raised and what the process looks like. A guarantee is only worth something if you know how to use it. The workshop's written Land Rover Discovery Sport used engine proposal should state this explicitly.
Which Discovery Sport engines are most commonly replaced with used units?
The 2.0 Ingenium diesel (204DTD) where chain failure has damaged the head, and the petrol (AJ200D) where head gasket failure has warped the head. Both are families where the replacement must be checked hardest — the same faults that killed the donor can kill the replacement if checks are skipped.
Can I use a used engine from a different Discovery Sport model year?
Only if the engine code matches. The 204DTD spanned 2015–2022 with revisions along the way, and a late engine may need different ancillaries to an early car. Your specialist confirms compatibility against your registration — including any changes required for ancillaries and wiring — before sourcing, so the unit fits properly the first time.
